AI visibility

How SEOgent checks whether ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity mention your site, what the numbers mean, and how to win the questions competitors own.

More of your customers now ask an AI assistant before they search. AI Visibility tracks whether those assistants recommend you: every week SEOgent asks them the questions your customers ask, and reads every answer for your name and your links.

What gets checked

Every Sunday SEOgent asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude each of your tracked questions, with web search switched on and from your country, the way a customer would. It then reads each answer and records:

  • Named: whether the answer mentions your brand or domain, and where among the brands it names (#1 means you’re named first)
  • Linked: whether one of the answer’s sources is a page on your site
  • Competitors: which of your tracked competitors are named or linked instead

Your questions

You can track up to 25 questions per site. Good ones sound like a customer who hasn’t heard of you yet:

  • “What’s the best coffee subscription for espresso drinkers?”
  • “Blue Bottle alternatives that roast to order”
  • “Where can I buy Swiss Water decaf beans online?”

Don’t include your own brand name: the point is to find out whether assistants bring you up unprompted.

If you haven’t added any by the first check, SEOgent writes about 20 for you from your keyword map, your competitors and your country. Use Suggest questions for more at any time. Each question can be edited, paused (paused questions aren’t asked) or removed, which also drops its answers.

The numbers

AI Visibility: how often each assistant names or links to you, and the questions where competitors are named instead.
NumberWhat it means
Named in AI answersThe share of answers that mention your brand or link to your site
Linked as a sourceThe share of answers that cite a page on your site
Share of voiceYour appearances as a share of all appearances by you and your competitors
By assistantHow often each assistant names you, and the competitors named most

Each number is compared with the previous week, in percentage points. Answers that failed are left out.

In the question table, each cell shows one assistant’s answer: #2 means you were the second brand named, a link icon means it linked to your site, and – means you weren’t named, with how many competitors were named instead. Click a question to read every assistant’s full answer.

Each check is one answer from each model. The ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude apps can answer differently, especially when someone is signed in, so watch the trend across weeks rather than any single answer.

Questions people really ask

The Questions people ask AI section uses a different source: a database of real questions where Google’s AI Overviews (and ChatGPT, for US sites in English) cite websites, with estimated monthly volume. It has two tabs:

  • Where AI already cites you: questions where those answers link to your site
  • Where AI cites competitors, not you: questions where they link to your competitors and not to you. These are good topics to write about or improve

Turning it into work

The weekly briefing reads your AI visibility. When a competitor owns a question you could win, it writes an action item naming the question and the page to change or write. Typical fixes are a direct answer up front, a comparison table, or your own numbers that an assistant can quote. Your coding agent can read the same data with the get_ai_visibility tool.

How readable your site is to AI is a separate score, AI readiness, explained in The weekly briefing.

Checking sooner

The first check runs after setup, then every Sunday. Check now runs this week’s check early if it hasn’t run yet; results appear in a few minutes.
