How fixes work

Where action items come from, how SEOgent plans each fix from the live page, and how you or your coding agent carry it out and close it.

SEOgent doesn’t change your site. It finds what’s worth fixing, plans exactly how to fix it, and hands the plan to you or your coding agent. Nothing is planned or changed until you decide it should be.

Where action items come from

An action item is one thing to do, such as “Point product variants at one canonical page” or “Write a page for decaf searches”. They come from four places:

  • The weekly briefing. Every week SEOgent picks the three to seven most valuable things to do next, weighed by expected impact against effort. It doesn’t repeat items that are still open.
  • Site Health. The crawl, Google’s index check and the speed check find issues, such as broken links, missing titles or pages Google hasn’t indexed. Issues stay on Site Health until you choose Fix now, which turns one into an action item and starts planning its fix.
  • The Review Queue. Each week SEOgent drafts better titles, meta descriptions and headings for up to eight pages. Approving a draft creates an action item to apply it.
  • Chat. Ask the assistant to add a task, with or without a fix plan. It proposes the change, and nothing happens until you click Apply.

Each item has an impact (high, medium or low) and an effort: small is under 30 minutes, medium a few hours, and large a day or more. Lists put the highest impact first.

On This Week, the Hit these first tile shows your top five. The full list is split into To do (nothing started yet), In progress (being planned, drafted or reviewed) and Done.

Three kinds of fix

What happens next depends on the kind of item:

ItemWhat you clickWhat SEOgent does
Technical, indexing or content changesDraft fix, Create a plan or Fix nowPlans the fix step by step. The plan appears under Fixes in a minute or two
Page changes (titles, meta descriptions, headings)Draft changes for reviewDrafts the new copy into the Review Queue, where you edit and approve it

Fix plans

The planner works from the live page the way Google sees it, plus your Search Console data, not from your code. So it describes where each change goes in plain words (“the product page template”) rather than guessing file names. Each plan has:

  • A summary and the reason, with the numbers that make it worth doing
  • Steps, each saying where on the site and exactly what to change, including the exact text or markup
  • Manual steps (for you), for anything outside the code, such as requesting indexing in Search Console
A fix plan ready to review on the Fixes page. Copy the prompt into your agent, or let your agent pick it up over MCP.

Read the plan, then:

  • Copy prompt copies the plan as instructions for any coding agent, such as Claude Code, Cursor or Lovable.
  • Mark done closes the fix and its action item once the change is live.
  • Request changes… sends your notes to the planner, which writes a new plan.
  • Reject… closes the plan. You can plan the item again later.

If planning fails, the plan shows as Failed. Dismiss it and draft the fix again from the action item.

Plans use your account’s monthly AI allowance. If the allowance is used up, planning waits until it resets on the 1st.

Page changes

Page drafts go to the Review Queue. Each one suggests a new title (aim for 60 characters), meta description (155) and H1 (70), with optional content suggestions and internal links. Edit anything you like. Then:

  • Approve creates a ready fix with the exact new values, under Fixes.
  • Reject… discards it. Add a reason if you can: SEOgent uses rejection feedback to write better drafts next time.

New drafts arrive with each weekly review.

Carrying out the fix

Once a fix is ready, there are three ways to do it:

  1. Your coding agent picks it up. Agents connected over MCP only ever see fixes that are ready. The agent makes the change, checks the live page and closes the item with a note of what it changed. See Connect your coding agent.
  2. Copy prompt into any agent or AI site builder.
  3. Do it yourself by following the steps, then click Mark done.

After it’s done

The daily crawl re-checks every page whose action item was finished in the last week. On Site Health, an issue the crawl no longer finds is marked resolved. If it comes back, it reopens, and you can choose Fix now again.

Your agent’s completion notes feed the next weekly briefing, so it can say what changed and whether it worked.

Setting items aside

  • Dismiss an action item, or Reject it from its dialog, if it isn’t worth doing. Done and dismissed items can be reopened.
  • Ignore a Site Health issue to stop it being reported. Ignored issues stay ignored, even if the crawl still finds them.
